My name is Elizabeth Truax and I go by Leanne. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in central Arkansas. My approach to therapy is person-centered and focused on providing my clients with the support, care, and tools needed to find relief from emotional pain. I specialize in working with adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress, as well as communication and relationship issues.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. I use an eclectic mix of approaches and tools including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to walk alongside my clients in reaching the goals they want to achieve for their lives.
My focus
I firmly believe therapy can help everyone. Sometimes life gets messy. Sometimes our lives take turns we never expected. This can cause us to feel unequipped to cope with the resulting painful emotions. I typically see adults struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety, needing to reduce stress in healthy ways, needing help navigating relationships, wanting to improve communication, or needing to work through traumatic experiences. I always say, "Life happens and therapy helps!"
My communication style
I work to create a non-judgemental therapeutic space where clients feel seen, heard, and safe in exploring their true selves. I want clients to feel comfortable in sharing even difficult truths about their lives so the healing process can begin.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to becoming a therapist because I am naturally empathetic, nurturing, and caring. Over my past 21 years in the mental health profession, I have worked with a variety of age groups and in a variety of settings which has given me broad exposure and experience which has assisted me in honing my therapeutic skill set. Utilizing my skills to help clients bring about lasting improvements so they can live true to their most authentic selves is what I love most about being a therapist.
My goals for you
I work collaboratively with clients to identify what they would like to see improved or changed in their lives. I work to support the implementation of learned skills clients need in order to make progress toward their goals. I check in often to make certain therapy is progressing in a manner consistent with my client's expectations and make adjustments to goals as needed.
My first session with you
The first session is typically a time for me to listen to what brings my client into therapy and to learn more about where their struggles and pain points are. I usually ask questions to make certain I fully understand where the client is starting from and where the client wishes to make progress, so we can build a plan from there.
