Hi there, I'm Emma!

Hi there, My name is Emma Terzian, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with clients via telehealth. I have completed my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I work with individuals of age 18 and above, and I specialize in depression, anxiety, and stress using DBT, EMDR, CBT, and a Person-Centered approach to help my clients make progress and start feeling better.

My approach

My approach to therapy varies based on my clients' needs. I have been trained in DBT via Behavioral Tech Linehan Institute Training Company. I have also been trained in EMDR via Mosaic Training Institute. I most frequently use DBT, CBT, and the Person-Centered approach, as these modalities help my clients gain better awareness and understanding of themselves and become skillful in managing their symptoms.

My focus

I have found that my style and approach is a good fit for adults aged 18 and above who may be dealing with challenges of life transitions, social pressures, and stress in their everyday life; these may bring up symptoms of anxiety and depression. I work with my clients to help them navigate these transition periods and to build the right skills to improve their self-esteem, increase their self-confidence, become hopeful and motivated, and to build a more positive outlook on life.

My communication style

My communication style is calm, personable, and empathic. I like to normalize my clients' experiences to help them feel comfortable sharing about things that they need help with. My sessions are nonjudgmental, and I like to psycho-educate and use the Loving Kindness skill from DBT during my sessions.

My journey to mental healthcare

I love and enjoy helping people, thus, my career choice was made based on ensuring that I will be able to help people. I feel very honored when people trust me to help them, and it is so rewarding to observe my clients' growth and progress during therapy. Every time I see them start smiling, become hopeful, develop confidence, and feel motivated, I know in my heart that I am in a career that I am supposed to be in.

My goals for you

During our sessions, I like to work together with my clients to help them set therapy goals for their therapy journey. This often starts with building trust, getting to know each other, building comfort with being in therapy and setting goals that my clients are ready and willing to work on.

My first session with you

During our first session together, you can expect us to spend time talking about how you have been feeling recently and me asking questions to understand better why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Every person is different. Thus my approach with each client will be personalized to ensure that my approach aligns with my client's needs and goals.
