Hello, my name is Karina Arcos; I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I work with adults 18-59 and specialize in depression, domestic violence, self-esteem, childhood trauma, relationship issues, and stress. My approach to therapy is person-centered; I believe that we all have the ability to grow when provided with the right tools and insight.
My approach
The overarching theoretical orientation I use in my work is the Humanistic Counseling Theory in that I believe people have within themselves all the resources they need to live healthy and functional lives. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a modality that helps me and my clients build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults 18-59 who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. I have experience working with individuals dealing with depression, domestic violence, childhood trauma, relationship issues, self-esteem, and job-related stress.
My communication style
I provide a quiet space with transparent communication. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to therapy
I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help people. Whether it was as a peer mentor in school, volunteering in my community, or being a trusted and loyal friend, I have always naturally been drawn to helping people through difficult times.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Likely, the reason for seeking therapy will be broken down into goals and objectives (actions).
My first session with you
During the first session, the majority of our time, we will be talking about how you have been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand your reasons for feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before moving forward with setting goals.
