Arthur Bilbrey, LMFT 134935. I like to make my clients feel like they are heard and understood. I draw my theoretical approach on multiple theoretical approaches with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my primary theoretical orientation. I focus primarily on anxiety, panic, and depressive disorders but am open to working with other disorders. I have experience working with diverse populations and many different diagnoses and substance abuse.
My approach
The theoretical approach I most commonly use is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My therapeutic approach is somewhat eclectic, draws from other therapeutic elements, and has some elements of Zen Buddhism, Spirituality, and mindfulness.
My focus
I have experience working with diverse populations that consists of all ages and many ethnic backgrounds. The conditions that I am most comfortable working with are anxiety and depression.
My communication style
I try to help my clients feel heard and important. I do focus on what my clients say and work on helping them feel comfortable/safe. Occasionally I mix up humor in my sessions but I do it carefully and only when I know the client.
My journey to therapy
I always had a passion about how to optimize mental health, learning, and brain health. Before I went to college for Psychology I spent hours learning mindfulness, how to handle bullying and narcissism, how to increase charisma, and how to become a better communicator. I also learned about how exercise and meditation lead to positive change.
My goals for you
Most of the time clients know what they want to work on and need someone to listen and help them sort out what goals would be the most useful for them. If the client does not know what they want to work on I can help them come up with goals based on what complaints or symptoms they bring to the session.
My first session with you
Clients should expect a professional who listens and focuses a lot of energy on trying to understand their life difficulties. It is difficult to treat problems if the helper is focused on anything else. I also put energy into helping clients feel like they are in a safe warm environment when they see me.
