My name is Blanca Fernandez and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in San Diego, California. I approach therapy with empathy, and collaboration, tailoring treatment to your unique needs. I work with adolescents, adults, and families specializing in anxiety and stress management, trauma recovery, depression, and helping individuals build healthier relationships and self-esteem. Together we can work towards your path to emotional well-being and personal growth.
My approach
I employ a variety of theoretical approaches when working with clients, depending on the client's needs. I lead with a person-centered approach as well as a more action-oriented and goal-focused approach. I often use Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based approaches as they assist me and the client in establishing a mutual understanding of their current circumstances. These modalities facilitate collaborative efforts in shaping a direction for our work together.
My focus
My approach has been a great fit for adolescents and adults seeking guidance in navigating life challenges. I use evidence-based practices to guide clients dealing with anxiety, depression, symptoms of trauma, and various life stressors that may cause impairment. I work in collaboration with my clients to build skills that will allow them to gain confidence, autonomy, and the ability to take control of their own life.
My communication style
Working with me often feels like having a supportive and understanding presence in the room. I encourage a sense of validation for the client's thoughts and emotions as well as a space where they can explore their concerns openly and honestly. My communication style is geared towards fostering trust and prompting open dialogue, allowing the client to work through their challenges and find solutions at their own pace.
My goals for you
I value collaboration and adopting a client-centered process that respects autonomy and self-determination. My role is to guide and support the client in achieving meaningful goals that promote personal growth and well-being. This can be done through the assessment and exploration process, exploring motivation, understanding potential obstacles, and celebrating success.
My first session with you
My primary goal for the first session is to establish a foundation for a therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy, and collaboration. It will be an opportunity for the client to get a sense of what therapy will be like and start working towards their goals with the guidance of and support of a caring and compassionate therapist.
