My name is Dr. Kamilah Aqa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in the Central Valley of California and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and couples specializing in anxiety, panic disorders, and PTSD, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy to assist participants with making self-identified improvements and starting to become the person they aspire to be.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each participant and the goals they want to achieve. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy, as all modalities assist the participant and I to build a shared understanding of their reality which increases our alliance and ability to work together to achieve the desired results.
My focus
Through my many years of experience, I have found my therapeutic style and approach are an awesome fit for adults and couples who may be dealing with the challenges of life, want to improve communication, and desire healthier relationships. This often is displayed as anxiety, depression, stress, and continuous discord in relationships. I work in tandem with participants to navigate through these challenges to establish and maintain their desired outcomes.
My communication style
My communication style is calm yet passionate, genuine, accommodating, and personable. I want participants to feel comfortable conversing with me about anything in a non-judgmental space.
My journey to therapy
I love sharing my story of how I backed into becoming a therapist. Originally, I set out to work with and empower marginalized families. Fortunately, I have always loved getting to know people, and they are comfortable talking with me and seeking advice. Emboldened by my desire of being of service to families and highly sought out for guidance, has directed my calling to become the therapist I am today.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is centered around the participant's desired outcome. This starts by building trust and establishing open communication. The participant's goal will drive the therapy and can be revised as needed. Additionally, together we regularly track progress made or implement needed treatment changes.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is that we spend time discussing how you are feeling currently. I'll ask questions to develop a better understanding of why you may be experiencing these feelings. This initial session is dedicated to us building a genuine connection and allowing us to figure out the next steps together. I believe every participant is different, therefore has varying needs and we can take this journey to restoration and transformation together.
