My approach
I use an eclectic approach to therapy, utilizing interventions from different modalities. My approach is, generally, situation-driven. For example, given a particular scenario, I can use solution focus, cognitive behavioral, emotional focus, or dialectic behavioral therapy. I normally use a modality that is suitable for the type of situation/needs that are being addressed.
My focus
I work with clients who are trying to work through the adjustment period in their marriage. Some are addressing reoccurring problems in their personal life or marriage. Others who are dealing with personal, emotional, and or relational issues.
My communication style
I invite clients to tell me about their expectations. We discuss what a session would like. I clarify what is expected of them and what they can expect from me. With couples, in particular, we set up rules for the sessions. I have found that when these parameters are in place, clients have a more enjoyable experience. I provide unconditional positive regard.
My journey to therapy
During pastoral minister, I became concerned with numerous marital and relational problems among parishioners. My curiosity fed the desire to seek professional training in the field of Marriage and family therapy.
My goals for you
I help clients assess their issues and problems and decide what outcomes they desire. I provide guidance but generally allow them to select their desired outcomes.
My first session with you
The first session is generally spent building rapport and getting to know the clients. I encourage the clients to ask questions to help them understand my style and approach to therapy. I focus on dispelling fears, uncertainties, and anxieties.
