Hi, My name is Marcia Wong, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am based in Thousand Oaks, CA, but I work throughout California via telehealth. My primary focus is working with individuals with anxiety and depression including all ages, from children to adolescents and adults. I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), dependent on clients‚ needs.
My approach
My approach to therapy is solution focused. I utilize acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as cognitive restructuring, and will most likely utilize tools from dialectical behavioral therapy with my clients. My primary focus is working with clients who suffer from anxiety and depression - which many individuals of all ages are suffering from.
My focus
I have had the opportunity to work with children, teens, adults, and older persons. I thoroughly enjoy assisting clients by providing them with the skills to navigate through the pressures and transitions in life, regardless of age.
My communication style
I am personable in my style of communication and am empathetic and sensitive to my client's needs. I strive to communicate in a safe place for my clients and take pride in listening without judgment and working together toward managing their circumstances in life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always been drawn to helping people and have worked in many aspects of life assisting others, whether it be juvenile probation youth, hospital settings, school settings, hospice, and psychiatric hospital settings; it brings me great pleasure to make a difference in others' lives.
My goals for you
I like to find out what brought my client to therapy - and what their expectations for therapy might entail. Together, we work on identifying goals accordingly. Sometimes, I will suggest baby steps, and goals, while other times, I may suggest a more challenging goal, all dependent on the client. The goal for me is to meet my client where they are in life and find the best solution and utilization of tools for them to navigate through life.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to talk about what brought you to therapy and what you hope to get out of therapy. I generally spend the majority of the first session merely listening. This will provide me with an idea of what we are treating and what approach we will take to obtain our desired outcome.
