I am Dr. Zari Alipour; I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. I have been licensed in CA since 2001. Before becoming a psychologist, I was a registered nurse. I worked in ICU in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles.
My approach
I used cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and addiction counseling. Visualization and invivo exposure with response prevention.
My focus
I am well- a grounded psychologist. My goal is to help my client to be the best of who he/she can be. I have no preference for who to treat as long as you are ready for change because therapy can change you. If you want to hear the good, bad, and ugly, I am your therapist.
My communication style
I have a calm demeanor; I build up a therapeutic relationship with my client easily. I am very flexible. I respect my client for whatever walk of life she/he may be. I make my client feel comfortable during the session. I communicate directly and expect to be open and direct in expressing their need during our session.
My journey to therapy
I was an RN working in ICU and having a good income, and doing well. I wanted to have autonomy in working with my patient. As a nurse, you don't have that. Further, while I was providing nursing care to my patient, I was engaged in providing relaxation techniques and just listening to them. I realized when I worked with the individual patient during my shift they required less medication. that is part of the reason I became interested in changing my career. It was very hard; I had to work to pay my tuition.
