My name is Michael Beavers. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (since 1996).
My approach is fundamentally strengths-based (think Gallup Strengthsfinder rather than weight training). I believe it is tremendously important to build treatment plans on strengths and client diagnosis (rather than focusing merely on client diagnosis). Clinically and theoretically, I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Client-centered, and Solution-Focused approaches. I also use and train other clinicians in Structural Family therapy interventions. My work typically includes several assessments (notably the Meyers-Briggs and the Gallup Strengthsfinder) and lots of targeted homework and tools/handouts.
My ideal clients include adolescents, adults in transition or struggling emotionally or relationally, and professionals looking to take their performance to the next level (including overcoming any emotional or relational challenges).
My communication style
Focusing on strengths from beginning to end, I strive to create a collaborative, respectful environment which is a place for discovery, candor, and creation of new potential life scenarios.
My goals for you
Goals are built on: 1) client strengths; 2) reducing or eliminating symptoms that are a barrier to client success; and 3) client's beliefs about what is the 'highest leverage' actionable areas for them.
My first session with you
Dialogue about diagnosis, identifying strengths and liabilities, highlighting the client's specific goals for engaging in therapy.
