Hello! I am Charlie Alarie and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who is passionate about helping people rediscover the peace and joy inherent in the world around them with grace, humor, and kindness.
I have extensive experience assisting folks in overcoming tremendous challenges and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. I draw from a variety of approaches to best meet the needs of the individual with a foundational belief that we all have the recipe for healing within. I utilize a combination of basic biofeedback techniques, mindfulness practices, psychodynamic work, somatic awareness, and a whole health approach to foster lasting, sustainable healing and growth.
I specialize in working with anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and post-traumatic stress. Additionally, I have many years of experience working with folks struggling with Bipolar disorders, Schizophrenia Spectrum disorders, addiction, and family members supporting those struggling with severe and persistent mental health challenges. I have personal experience which has fostered a sensitivity to the special needs of first responders, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and fire professionals.
My communication style
My foundational approach to therapy is one of respect, dignity, humor, and hope. I have found therapy can often be overwhelming and stigmatizing for some, and it is my goal to make the process of healing as genuine and natural as possible. Again, respect and dignity underly my entire approach to my work no matter the technique or modality being utilized.
My journey to therapy
I began my career in healthcare working as an EMT in a busy hospital emergency department and discovered therapy as my calling via working with those in crisis. As I have navigated my career, I have discovered how to integrate my passion for neuroscience, physical health, and various therapeutic approaches, in addition to drawing from my own personal experience. It is the experience of success, hope, and healing for those I work with which continues to drive me after years of practice.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is client-centered, collaborative, and egalitarian. I view therapy as a client-driven process facilitated by the therapist and I tailor my level of intervention relative to the needs of the client. I inform goal setting with interventions and modalities I may view as helpful, although the client always reserves the right to consent, refuse, or modify any goal or approach at any time.
My first session with you
I view the first session as an opportunity for the client to determine whether my approach and presence will be a good fit. The first session is an excellent opportunity to discover brief client goals, reason for seeking therapy, and for me to provide a snapshot regarding what therapy may look like drawing from my unique style and toolbox of interventions.
