Hi there, I'm Jessica!

My name is Jessica Dennis and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has a background working with the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) and military/veteran populations looking to break generational cycles.

My approach

As a person of color and a retired Army veteran with two deployments, I understand how challenging complex traumas, life stressors/transitions, obstacles, and relationship stressors can be. Therapy is like a relationship and I am deeply committed to providing a safe and welcoming space to a wide range of diverse communities for a wide range of therapeutic concerns. When it comes to therapy, there is not a one-size-fits-all approach. You are the subject matter expert on your life and I would love to collaborate and support you on your therapy journey.

My focus

I provide culturally responsive therapy to individuals and couples using a strengths-based approach and I also have a background in working with individuals who are new to therapy or are the first in their families to receive therapy. I am open to anyone who is serious about working on themselves and needs additional support and a listening ear.

My communication style

I want you to feel comfortable opening up to me in session. I provide a calm and nurturing environment free from judgment, but I am also direct and I will ask the kind of questions that make you think. I want to get to know you as a person so that I know how I can partner with you to achieve your goals.

My journey to mental healthcare

Ten-ish years ago I didn't know I would be here. I was fresh off a year-long deployment that was what I like to call, the best worst time. It was a chance encounter with a retired Marine in the field who asked me if after 10 minutes of conversation if I ever thought about becoming a therapist and now here I am. My experiences in the military drive and inspire me to do this type of work because I know what it's like to feel alone, unseen, and unheard. I strive to provide that compassionate support that a lot of us feel we lack because I have been there.

My goals for you

First things first, goal setting isn't about me, it's about you. Tell me about your short and long-term goals and let's collaborate together to develop a plan with measurable goals.

My first session with you

During the first session, I will ask about what brings you into therapy and your goals for therapy. I also like to ask a lot of background questions with the goal of getting to know you better. I find that knowing a person's history I am able to better help my clients identify those stuck points that keep folks from meeting their full potential.
