Hello, my name is Alice Geanta, licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Lic# 80297). We begin our work with me asking you to share as much as possible about what brings you to therapy. I like to tailor my interventions to what works best for the individual, so together we will look at what style of interventions work best for you. My areas of focus are depression and anxiety, substance dependence, anger management, healing from trauma, and various life stages adjustments, such as divorce or loss of a loved one. I work with adults as well as youth.
My approach
Through our work, I will reference and use various interventions borrowed from various theories of practice. For trauma work, we might look at the family of origin dynamics and the attachments that were formed as a result of those dynamics. For some who just want a more practical hands-on approach to managing mood and/or anxiety, we might look at some tools that can be immediately implemented to provide relief. Cognitive Behavioral therapeutic interventions can work well in gaining control of our thought patterns and for someone who deals with extremes in their moods, we might look at mindfulness techniques as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy interventions. At the end of the day, it will be most important that the client communicates his/her needs and that the interventions are tailored to meet those needs.

My communication style
I will do my best to meet a client where they are. If this means that a person needs to take the time to be heard, this may be what is needed during that session. Other times, the individual is looking for guidance or direction. So we will explore our options together. I am guided by the client but at the same time, I like to keep a focus on our treatment goals and maintain forward movement on our work together.

My goals for you
We will be exploring together what the overarching goals of therapy will be. beyond this, we will break the goals down into small manageable intentions and we will be revisiting these throughout our sessions.
My first session with you
I will be asking a lot of questions during the initial sessions as I gather the information for our treatment goals.
