Hi there, I'm Katherine!

She is Dr. Kate Bergam. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has worked with clients for more than 20 years. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at UCLA and then earned her master's and doctorate degrees from the California Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology at 27 years old. She is currently working part-time at College Hospital as well as working as a therapist at Path.

My approach

Dr. Kate Bergam's approach is directive. She works very well using the CBT model. Dr. Kate helps clients uncover unhealthy belief systems and dysfunctional thought processes that are associated with feeling anxious and depressed in order to improve their positive outcomes. Dr. Kate Bergam works well with clients who are willing to do whatever it takes to feel better. She gives therapy homework assignments to clients at the end of their appointments to hold clients accountable for what they learned in treatment. It's important for clients to work on themselves in between sessions. Clients are participatory and always respond to Dr. Kate's approach in a satisfactory manner.

My focus

Dr. Kate Bergam's focus of treatment includes Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Hoarding, Panic Attacks, Trauma, ADHD, Bipolar D/O, PTSD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Attachment issues, poor self-esteem, poor anger management, spiritual battles, and constant worry. Her specialty is helping adults who feel exhausted, overwhelmed, dysregulated, lonely, sleep deprived, unhappy with weight gain, and who are experiencing tumultuous relationships with partners and co-workers.

My communication style

Dr. Kate has a communication style that is direct. She enjoys listening to clients who process their thoughts and feelings about their most recent experiences and suggests ways they can do things differently. Afterward, Dr. Kate shares what she thinks or feels and gives clients clear instructions on what to do.

My journey to mental healthcare

Have you ever woken up in the morning and cursed the sun for rising? Have you ever entertained the thought of not wanting to live anymore? It's not like you want to commit suicide but it's just that you don't see the purpose of your life. Nothing seems to matter anymore. What's the point? Then there are the feelings of dread and constant worrying and despair creep in. It's so hard to take a shower, brush your teeth, and get out of the bed. Dr. Kate has been there, right where you are. She wanted to become a therapist to let you know that you're not alone. Dr. Kate is here for you. Schedule a session with her today to learn more.

My goals for you

Dr. Kate wants to know, "Why are you here?" "What do you need?" "What do you want? Really want?" Dr. Kate, if a miracle happened to you tonight while you were sleeping then how would you know it came true the next day?

My first session with you

The initial session is for Dr. Kate to complete an initial assessment with you to explore your reasons why you're seeking therapy at this time and determine your symptoms, as well as to create goals for your treatment. She will want to get to know you better and help you feel calm about the process.
