My name is Leslie Swager and I'm an LCSW in CA. My approach to therapy is patient centered where the patient talks and I listen and interject when I need to. My focus area is on grief and loss, not just when someone dies but also when life changes out of your control and you are struggling.
I use Patient-Centered Therapy and also Family Systems Theory. That simply means that I want to hear what is happening with the patient and help them (and therefore help their family) get through this difficult time.
I have worked with a variety of clients but have the most experience with grief and loss. I've also worked with clients who were molested as children and simply with clients who are going through challenges in their life.
My communication style
I listen. And I listen very well. I want the client to be talking much more than myself. I will add comments as they are needed but I will learn more if I'm listening to you.
My journey to mental healthcare
I wanted to help people who were having challenges in their life, especially the challenges that grief presents. I have retired and decided that it was time to do some work in helping people again. I've missed it.
My goals for you
We work on setting goals together. I cannot imagine setting goals without their input but I certainly have done it in my work career. It just works better if the client has some say about what they want to achieve.
My first session with you
An approach that introduces the client to myself and also myself to the client. We need to learn a little bit about each other to proceed. I usually learn much more about them.
