I have been passionate about helping those suffering from the impact of life's challenges for over 20 years. I have worked in a psychiatric hospital for teens who endured severe abuse, an Intensive Outpatient facility for those with issues such as cPTSD, suicidality, substance abuse, etc., a non-profit agency for children/families who were victims of domestic violence, and maintained a private practice for over 12 years. I am dedicated to being your safe and approachable guide through your healing journey so you can heal from your past and live the fulfilling life you are meant to live.
My approach
I approach therapy as a collaborative effort between me and my clients where I create a safe and non-shaming space for the clients to address issues such as addictions, disordered eating, and mood disorders. I utilize EMDR, IFS, and compassion-focused therapy to help clients achieve their goals.
My focus
I prefer working with adults (over 18yo) from all backgrounds, SES, races, sexual orientations, religions, etc. Also, clients who are motivated and open to participating in a variety of therapeutic interventions.
My communication style
I take a calm and relaxed approach to communicating with my clients with compassionate and non-judgmental/non-shaming responses. I usually speak with a moderate tone (not too loud, not too soft). I enjoy using humor and being very empathic when appropriate/needed.
My journey to mental healthcare
I first developed an interest in helping others when I joined my father as a young child to aid residents who were residing in subsidized housing. I began from that point, considering how I could contribute to improving the lives of others. Fast forward several years later, I obtained the training necessary to be a mental health therapist (LMFT) as I determined it was the best avenue for me to achieve that mission to be an agent of change. Helping others regain their sense of hope and to find more fulfilling lives is the most rewarding career path I could have chosen.
My goals for you
Clients have achieved their goals when they have developed a connection to self with a strong sense of self-compassion and are able to tolerate and effectively respond to emotional challenges. Overall, clients report “feeling better” and no longer allow their past to define their present life.
My first session with you
Your first session with me will be a time to get to know each other. I open the space for you to share as little or as much as you feel comfortable with and for you to ask any questions you may have about me or the process. I will inform you about my approach, and we will begin formulating your treatment goals.
