Hi! I'm Alexandria Steely, LCSW and I specialize in helping children, teens, and young adults find themselves, grow, and be the most confident version they can be. I am committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions. I work alongside my clients, co-piloting as we look to understand and break down emotions and feelings.
My approach
I believe in taking a holistic, person-centered approach to therapy. I recognize that each individual is unique and that your experience is equally unique. You can expect to find a warm, non-judgmental, and laid-back environment to explore your inner self. I understand that every individual has different needs and preferences and therapy does not look the same for everyone. That's why I utilize a range of therapeutic modalities including a Psychodynamic approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and so much more.
My focus
Over the past couple of years, I have typically been working with children, teens, and young adults with low self-confidence, negative self-image, anxiety, and overall general mental health concerns. I also have experience working with adults with mood disorders, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and psychotic disorders.
My communication style
Therapy sessions with me will look very laid back and comfortable. It is all about you, after all! We will talk about you and what is important to you. Remember, you are the expert of your own story! Together, we can work to rewrite your narrative to be the person that you want to be, identify your limiting beliefs, take small steps toward your future, and come to an understanding that it is YOU who writes your story. It is your story, feel free to hit life with a plot twist whenever you want!
My journey to mental healthcare
I'm often asked what led me to become a therapist or how I manage to work in mental health. The simple answer; personal and professional experience led me to fall in love with the world of mental health. The long answer: I have always been the one friends and family turn to when they are in need. I am compassionate and empathetic, yet matter of fact. I have always been drawn to the reasons why individuals act and behave in certain ways and wondered what our emotions and feelings are truly trying to tell us. My goal is to help my clients understand that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to feel and there are no "good" or "bad" emotions; that emotions and feelings are simply information that we can use to better understand ourselves and what our brains are trying to tell us. Holding that safe space for my clients, while seeing them grow through their struggles and come into their own, is what drives me as a therapist.
My goals for you
I use evidence-based techniques and create personalized treatment plans to help you achieve your goals. I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself, identifying problems, and working towards your goals.
My first session with you
During an initial session, you can expect to find a warm, non-judgmental, and laid-back environment to explore your inner self. I will be asking questions to get to know you better, to identify what is going on for you, and to gain a better understanding of your world. Seeking therapy can feel intimidating, but with a safe space and laid-back environment, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow into your BEST self, at your own pace.
