My name is Socorro A. Ancheta-Goodacre and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 30 years of experience based in the Fresno area. I work with adolescents, adults, and married couples and families. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Focus Therapy, and Internal Family Systems to provide people with the skills and knowledge to heal and cope with depression, anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, and life's transition.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to start where the client is and build rapport. My method approach is to explore the client's motivation for treatment, which therapy intervention will vary based on the need of each client. I frequently utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Focus Therapy, and internal Family Therapy, as these modalities assist me and the client to understand how they see themselves, see others, and the world.
My focus
I have been fortunate to work in various settings that have helped me develop a style and approach that work well with adolescents and adults struggling with social/peer pressures and life's transitions and challenges. These challenges can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, mood instability, anger, grief, poor communication, and hopelessness. I work with clients to help them understand and manage their emotions and navigate life's transition by developing skills and resilience.
My communication style
My communication style is genuine, peaceful, and friendly. My hope is to provide a calming and safe environment for the client to share their story and experience without judgment.
My journey to therapy
I decided a long time ago to work with others, which has helped me make sense of a world that can be cruel, as well as beautiful. There has been so much destruction, violence, poverty, ignorance, and loss in this world. However, I have also seen the power of the human spirit, as we are capable of tremendous courage, relentless faith, and unconditional love in the face of fear, destruction, and great loss. Therefore, being part of the instrument for positive change and believing that all humans have the capacity for change by providing people with the skills and knowledge they can learn to be resourceful, develop and transform to their full potential and heal from their greatest pain.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is a team approach by working together to identify their expectations and identify areas of concern using the SMART goal setting that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. This will help the client to see their own progress and individually prepare for the end of treatment. Everyone is different and has a story to share; however, as the writer of their story- the client is the producer, director, and actor, so they can edit it, re-write it, and change the role they play.
My first session with you
What they can expect from our first session together is to spend the time talking about recent concerns, stressors, or feelings that brought them into therapy and how I can be of help. The first session is about building rapport, active listening, and initiating the mental health assessment to give me a sense of direction of where we should go from there.
