Hi, my name is Diana Hernandez and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with 12 years of experience in the mental health field. I currently work through telehealth services providing individual therapy to adults. I specialize in helping clients cope with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, life transitions, and past trauma.
My approach
I work from a person-centered approach and place great value on the therapeutic relationship. I utilize authenticity and transparency in building rapport and trust with my clients. I also combine cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy in treatment.
My focus
I typically work with young adults to middle-aged adults; assisting with matters of work stress, relationship/marriage issues, inner child healing, mindfulness, self-awareness, identifying and reframing cognitive distortions, and changing behavioral problems. I also have a lot of experience helping clients process and work through past trauma.
My communication style
My communication style in sessions is casual, easygoing, and conversational. I provide a supportive environment and practice compassion and empathy with my clients. I use open-ended questions to help clients explore and understand their own thoughts and feelings. I encourage feedback from clients to ensure effective communication and overall good quality care.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became passionate about social justice issues while studying in undergrad. I felt inspired to make a change in the world. Social work became an obvious choice as I was able to work directly with people. I truly love what I do as I get to see the progression and evolution of my clients. I get to witness their growth and be a part of their healing journey. I feel fulfilled for the work I do and grateful for the people I work with.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting at the beginning of therapy to understand the needs and wants of my clients in treatment. I review clients' expectations of therapy and discuss how we can achieve specific goals as we work together.
My first session with you
Therapy can be intimidating, so during that first session I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to openly talk about their thoughts and feelings. I explore the reason for coming to therapy and gather information regarding history of symptoms and behaviors. I listen attentively, validate feelings, and provide support throughout the process, as I know that it can be difficult to open up and share personal things.
