My name is Brandy Smith, LCSW, LICSW. I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed to practice independently in both California and Rhode Island. I work with individuals who have experienced trauma, PTSD, depression, panic disorder, anxiety, or chronic low self-esteem. I am a United States Veteran and have special expertise in working with Active-Duty Military and Veterans.
My approach
I am a client-centered therapist who uses an integrative approach. I pull from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness techniques, DBT Skills, and EMDR to best support you.
My focus
You may be struggling with frustrations, feeling as if your life is stuck or off track, or having difficulty with a life transition that feels too overwhelming. The therapist-client relationship is unique, and our relationship will be the foundation for change and set the stage for healing.
My communication style
I value the relationship that is built with each person that enters the room and I seek to build trust and safety with you. Clients who benefit most from my style are motivated to work towards change and are open to the process of therapy.
My goals for you
Both attuned listening and careful integration of psychotherapy can help a client shift to a more calm and stable way of interacting in their world. Goal setting is an important element of psychotherapy and should be flexible and fit the client's goals and needs.
My first session with you
I will meet you where you are, meaning I don’t have an agenda or a preset amount of sessions that we will work together. Sometimes people come to therapy for a specific issue they would like help problem solving and it can be accomplished in 4-6 sessions. Other times, people seek therapy for a longer period of time. I have seen clients for a few sessions up to a couple of years.
