Greetings, my name is Eliott Goretsky and I am a California State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). My extensive background includes providing individual, family and group counseling to a culturally diverse population across the Southern California region since 2004, including 10 years with Riverside University Healthcare Systems in the desert region. From 2016 to 2021, I worked extensively with chronic, high-acuity patients at Kaiser Permanente, providing clinical assessment, treatment planning and outside referrals, clinical care management, and group psychotherapy. And for the past year, I have worked as a contracted telehealth clinician providing adult individual and couples counseling sessions to patients.
My approach
My approach to therapy is eclectic in nature. I endeavor to deliver client-centered treatment, utilizing a variety of modalities to address issues such as mood disorders, recovery from addictive behaviors, traumatic events, grief/loss and other phase-of-life challenges which may arise. I look forward to meeting you and helping you along your journey!
My focus
I am currently working with telehealth patients to address a varied range of mental health issues including: adjustment disorder, phase of life issues, work/life stressors, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and addiction/recovery issues. I presently only see adults and mature adults in both individual and couples therapy sessions.
My communication style
I endeavor to create a safe and trusting therapeutic environment, providing my clients with unconditional positive regard and support. I approach each session with a blend of focus, concern, excitement, creativity, and even humor when appropriate.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a young adult, I was initially drawn to Southern California for my education and lifestyle and my initial work experiences were based in the entertainment industry and later in publicity and development at a nonprofit agency. I was drawn to becoming a therapist as a result of my own recovery process which began in my 30s, and I found myself returning to graduate school in 2003 to begin a new career. I know from my own experience the power and impact solid clinical treatment can have on the individual who is struggling for peace and stability. It is exciting to see people recover, grow and get well through the process of therapy!
My goals for you
I approach goal-setting via solution-focused treatment, helping the client identify problems/challenges and exploring each client's individual strengths and resilience which will ultimately be their own unique tools of recovery.
My first session with you
I truly want to make each client feel comfortable, safe, and heard in our first session. It's also important to get a general history, although I believe that becomes more detailed over our first several sessions. Most importantly, I want to know the client's expectations of treatment and how I can offer the best support and interventions needed.
