My name is Steve Pierce. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Merced, California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and adolescents, individuals and couples, with concerns including anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, and relationships, to help my clients make desired changes in their lives.
My approach
Depending on my client's needs and concerns, my primary approach is Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I integrate other approaches and techniques as appropriate. After working with the client to identify clear goals for therapy, we follow a focused treatment plan to successfully and efficiently achieve those goals.
My focus
I've found that I'm a good fit for clients who want to make a change in their life. The change could involve something like a big decision, a relationship, a college major or career, or adjusting to a significant event or experience.
My communication style
Changes in life can be stressful, but therapy to resolve the concern should be characterized by hope based on a confident, rational expectation of success. The fact that you're ready to engage in the process is major, and foundational for that success.
My first session with you
After getting to know you and a bit about your life, my first question will be, "People usually get therapy because they want to change something. What are you interested in changing?" After a brief discussion, we will identify what your life will look like after you've made the change(s), and make a plan to make that happen.
