Hi there, I'm Jasmine!

Hi, my name is Jasmine Mims and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist that enjoys providing a safe space for people to feel heard. I assist individuals and families with building on their current skills to help with challenging situations. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and transitional-age youth (ages 16-25) and I enjoy working with a variety of mental health challenges such as anxiety, disruptive behaviors, life transitions, mild depression, stress, anger, and other life challenges.

My approach

I utilize an eclectic approach in therapy as it allows me to customize a variety of therapeutic approaches to best fit the client. Simply, I am able to mix and match various theoretical approaches to best suit the individual. I commonly use a Client-Centered approach as this allows me to provide a nonjudgmental space to actively listen to each client and customize my approach for the individual or family.

My focus

My client focus is on working with ages 11-25. I typically work with children/teens and their caregivers to provide a safe space for the individual and their families. I also enjoy working with children with learning disabilities as I can modify my approach to fit the developmental age of the child. I am most comfortable with assisting individuals with behavioral concerns, children with Autism, anxiety, life transitions, and assisting parents with supporting their children through their time of need.

My communication style

I like to provide a space where the client feels comfortable sharing any concerns without any judgment. I provide this by building trust with the client, getting to know their likes/dislikes, actively listening, and walking with each individual or family through their life journey to assist with personal growth and self-acceptance.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always enjoyed helping others. I volunteered to work with children and teens at the Boys and Girls Club and recognized that many people felt misunderstood, unheard, and as if their feelings or thoughts did not matter. I started to tell myself, "I want to be the person to provide a safe space to allow others to feel understood, heard, accepted, and know that their thoughts and feelings matter." Therefore, I became a therapist to be the person to provide a safe space for others to feel understood and accepted.

My goals for you

The client and I will identify a goal together as a team. I will utilize my active listening skills to listen to the client's wants and needs and the client will express their concerns. We will then collaborate on what is the most important need at this time and identify a goal to best fit the client.

My first session with you

Our first session together will be a time of getting to know each other. I am a complete stranger and so are you, therefore during the first session we will simply be introducing ourselves, talking about likes/dislikes, and establishing goals to work on throughout our time together.
