Hello! I'm Nathan Aish, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) located in San Diego, California. I have 26 years of healthcare leadership experience, including 9 years of providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families. My approach to therapy integrates person-centered, trauma-informed, strength-based, harm-reduction, gender-responsive, and cultural humility perspectives.
My approach
My personal approach to therapy is to create a collaborative partnership with clients and treat them with dignity, respect, and humility. Clinical approaches include but are not limited to Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy.
My focus
Currently, I provide online/virtual therapy to individuals. I have experience working with individuals with schizophrenia, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, homelessness, and co-existing addictions. Further, I have experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as monogamous and ethically non-monogamous/polyamorous (ENM) individuals and couples.
My communication style
My goal for all clients is to create a non-judgment safe space for them to share, explore, and gain insight. While also seeking to develop a strong therapeutic alliance and trust with the clients I serve.
My journey to therapy
What attracted me to becoming a therapist is my lifelong mission to serve others and my community. The ongoing success and progress of my clients are what drives me to do this work.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to meet each client where they are at and work together in collaboration to develop the best possible plan to meet their needs. The primary foundation of goal setting is to aid clients in achieving self-determination.
My first session with you
During the first session, we will explore the reason(s) for seeking support, begin to build rapport and a strong therapeutic alliance, as well as review initial assessments, confidentiality/privacy, and pros/cons of online therapy, and respond to any questions. The first session may also include a review of different approaches for the client to consider moving forward.
