Hi there, I'm Erika!

Dr. Erika Garcia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been in counseling practice for the past 20 years. Dr. Garcia graduated in 1998 with a master’s in counseling psychology from National University. In 2019 she completed a Doctorate Degree in Psychology with a specialization in health psychology and behavioral medicine. Pursuing this degree has allowed Dr. Garcia to obtain knowledge and experience in working with individuals who have a combination of medical and psychological health issues. Dr. Garcia worked as a Behavioral Consultant at a primary care clinic in the community for a period of 3 years. She enjoys working with the Latino population and people of different cultures and backgrounds. She is bilingual and bicultural in Spanish. Dr. Garcia is also a Spanish native speaker and prides herself on providing culturally sensitive services to her clients. During her experience as a marriage and family therapist, Dr. Garcia has provided services in the following areas: Management of mood disorders and anxiety disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, and trauma and stressor-related disorders. In addition, Dr. Garcia has also treated patients with somatic symptom disorders and children with elimination disorders. Furthermore, Dr. Garcia has helped clients with substance-related and addictive disorders. Dr. Garcia has treated domestic violence victims and aggressor-related issues. She has also provided counseling for children and adolescents dealing with various issues. She has provided treatment for child abuse (physical, emotional, and neglect) and counseled the victim and aggressor. Additionally, Dr. Garcia has managed issues related to diversity/ cultural issues, and she also has disorders involving mind-body connections. She has conducted brief counseling on smoking cessation, weight management, stress management, anger management, and work-related issues. Dr. Garcia has an eclectic approach to treatment. However, she has received training in the following therapeutic modalities: Crisis intervention, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), client-centered therapy, creative therapies, solution-focus therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, trauma-focused cognitive therapy, and art and play-oriented techniques. In addition, Dr. Garcia is a certified Domestic Violence facilitator. She is certified to provide parenting child abuse prevention groups to clients mandated by the court or Child Protective Services. Dr. Garcia also has received training as a Christian Counselor. In her spare time, Dr. Garcia enjoys helping others through voluntary service at her church, playing with her two dogs, going to the beach with her kids, and listening to music.
