Hi, my name is Becky Black, and my MFT license number is 36620; I am also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist my registration number is 709236. Simply stated I have an eclectic therapeutic approach. My focused areas of practice include food, weight, and body image.
My approach
I have an eclectic therapeutic approach combining the work of Carl Rogers, Solution Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology with an overlay of my personal intuition. My focused areas of practice include food, weight, and body image with an emphasis on Intuitive Eating and using drawing, journaling, mediation, and visualization to assist in personal transformation.
My focus
I typically work with individual adults of all ages. I have a passion for working with those with non-hunger eating, stress eating, emotional eating, and body image issues.
My communication style
I would describe my tone as honest, direct, and compassionate. Perhaps feedback from prior clients will answer this question: "I found clarity on things that I had been struggling to comprehend for years. It helped me to understand myself and those around me, giving me the strength to make some of the toughest decisions I've had to make to date. Her honesty and insight allowed me to move forward. I can't say enough about my experience with Becky. It was truly amazing and I will cherish it." "Becky has been AMAZING at listening with compassion and parting life's wisdom on top of self-help practices that weren't given to me by previous therapists. She has been very easy to talk to and there has been zero disconnect or judgments on what has been said during sessions. And she has been wonderful at pointing out different aspects of a scenario that I hadn't thought of before. And I overanalyze everything. She has been great!"
My journey to therapy
I first became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and I learned very quickly that I desired to improve my communication skills so I could assist people with food, weight, and body image issues. I attended a wonderful MFT program that was very experiential and creative. My thesis was on using drawing, journeying, meditation, and visualization to help people improve their relationship with themselves. I would say I am passionate (instead of driven) about this area because self-love improves all aspects of our lives.
My goals for you
If the client desires goal setting to be a focus then I will support goal setting. Otherwise, goal setting will come up only if it organically comes up.
My first session with you
An opportunity to ask me questions about my therapeutic approach, style, and philosophy and the opportunity to reveal what they would like to focus on therapy-wise.
