Hi, my name is Natalie Birman, Ph.D. and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. My approach is interactive and supportive, with the goal of helping you develop a stronger sense of well-being as we work together on specific clinical problems/issues. These issues include but are not limited to depression and anxiety, anger management, relationships, and other issues causing you distress.
My approach
I use an integrated approach to therapy and place emphasis on building a strong therapeutic rapport. My approach most heavily relies on cognitive behavioral and DBT theories. I also integrate existential and person-centered therapies.
My focus
I typically work with clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, grief, anger problems, relationship difficulties, and life changes/cycles.
My communication style
I create a caring, non-judgmental and accepting environment for my clients. They sense that I care and am motivated to help them feel better and lower their overall stress.
My journey to therapy
I was driven to become a therapist because I have wanted to help people since I was a teenager. I struggled with family dysfunction, depression, grief, and loss from a young age. I continue to want to help others in a professional role.
My goals for you
I ask clients what they would like to receive out of therapy and what brings them to therapy. I also ask how they will know that they have improved and that therapy is working for them. I seek measurable and behavioral changes.
My first session with you
They should expect me to listen about what brings them to therapy and to ask questions pertinent to their risk level (risk assessment) and historical factors that help me begin to build a case conceptualization. My emphasis will be to engage the client and build a therapeutic connection during the first session. Added to this are the treatment goals.
