My name is Delmar Devers, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the great state of California. I have experience working with youth and adults who have experienced stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-directed and client-centered. I believe therapy is relational, and therefore it is also how I approach therapy with clients. The most commonly used treatment modalities that I use are Cognitive Based Therapy and Psychodynamic therapy.
My focus
I have experience working with all ages, cultures, and groups of people. My work experience has allowed me to work with people who deal with trauma, anxiety disorders, racial stress, depression, mood disorders, and other stress or adjustment disorders.
My communication style
In every single session, my goal is to make therapy a "safe space" where the client does not feel judged but rather feels heard. I communicate with empathy and strive to be a supportive presence during the session.
My journey to mental healthcare
Ironically, I did not always know that I wanted to become a therapist. Growing up, mental wellness was not discussed and certainly not encouraged. However, as I got older, I realized the role that mental health played in my overall functioning. So, I know first-hand how it helps. Additionally, I have always been a great listener and helper of people.
My goals for you
In developing treatment goals, I encourage clients' self-determination, which means YOU set the goals that you want. My role is to assist in developing measurable and attainable goals for you and helping you reach them.
My first session with you
Day 1? I want to get to know you. In my years of doing this work, I understand that it takes time to build trust and rapport. Knowing that we will have a discussion about you and what you want from therapy. It will be my hope that this will be the first step in building a therapeutic alliance.
