My name is Alma Acevez and I have been providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults since 2013. My focus has been on how to strengthen the family unit and improve communication in the home. I am trained in child-parent psychotherapy with a 0-5 population who have experienced trauma. I provide services in English and Spanish.
My background includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child Parent Psychotherapy, Trauma-focused therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy.
Since graduating in 2013 I have found myself working with children and adolescents and adults.
My communication style
I try my best to provide a safe space for clients. I understand the therapeutic relationship takes time to build and my effort is ongoing with clients. I utilize games and worksheets in sessions as well as role-playing exercises and practicing relaxation techniques.
My goals for you
My goals in treatment with clients are to be where they are. Goals are created collaboratively in session and progress is tracked week by week. A client who is able to reduce symptoms that are affecting their day-to-day functioning as well as utilizing appropriate coping skills is seen as a success.
My first session with you
In our first session, initial symptoms impairing clients' ability to function are identified. Together we discuss safety concerns and the current support system. Also, expectations the client has for treatment.
