I strive to furnish those whom I serve the experience of being deeply understood. My wish is to ease your suffering, fortify your strengths, and help you embrace the joys and sorrows of life with courage. Whether your suffering comes from early childhood trauma, more recent losses, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or something about yourself that you don’t like, I’m here to help. I am well versed in numerous therapeutic approaches to healing, often leaning toward psychodynamic ways of working, with deep sensitivity to inner complexity and your particular circumstances. I tailor my approach to each individual. My warm, gentle, and positive professional style lend itself well to the co-creation of a safe therapeutic space for you to explore your inner world and generate solutions to both immediate and longstanding problems. Further, I fully respect all of the dimensions of a person, including matters of spirituality. I'm open-minded, easy to talk to, egalitarian, and have a sense of humor. I want you to feel safe and companioned as you begin to tend to wounds, both old and new, and move toward healing and self-evolution. Together, we will be able to make a safe space for you to begin the journey of ending your suffering. I look forward to speaking with you.
My approach
I utilize psychodynamic, solution-focused, strength-based, person-centered, transpersonal, cognitive behavioral, and psychoeducational approaches most often. However, I'm well versed in a variety of other approaches that will be tailored to what each individual might be seeking to accomplish.
My focus
I work best with individuals who like to laugh and are open to identification of strengths as well as personal challenges.
My communication style
Patients tell me that I have a very gentle and kind demeanor. I'm never pushy and always attempt to match my client's moods and demeanor so as to join them and help them feel less alone in whatever problems they might be facing. I speak very supportively but I'm very well able to move between support and challenge in order to best address the problem at hand.
My journey to mental healthcare
We don't choose the counseling profession, it chooses us. I believe that I'm meant to be in this role due to life experiences, which led to a 17-year journey of education and training. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist holding a Master's in Counseling Psychology, a Bachelor's in Psychology, and degrees in Addiction Science, Social and Behavioral Science, with certifications in multiple modalities with honors and awards in all degrees. I'd be happy to send a CV upon request.
My goals for you
My foremost goal is to align with the goals that my clients bring to the table. I believe good therapy also involves the development of a good relationship, and am therefore not reluctant to share my own life experiences, when relevant, to the problems being addressed.
My first session with you
I listen deeply to the problems of others and collect information which is then used to develop, collaboratively, a treatment plan that feels right for the person seeking help.
