I'm Bette Baber, a licensed LMFT who has been practicing for over 12 years. Thank you for taking the first step to achieving your goals. Believing there is a solution to every issue, I help individual clients navigate the trials they face (depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance abuse, and career and life transition issues) using positive treatment models. Having worked in various clinical settings I have also helped children, teens, and families as well as helping clients in crisis and I would love to help you.
My approach
I typically use Positive psychology along with Solution Focused, Narrative, CBT, and Gestalt Therapy to help clients achieve goals and make positive changes when I treat individual clients. Having also treated children and families, I use Systems theories including Structural, Communications, and Strategic approaches, and work with the entire family to help them communicate more effectively and experience positive changes.
My focus
Having treated many different types of clients with various types of issues, I tend to find the clients I see most often are struggling with Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders, relationship issues, and decisions regarding their career or some other type of adjustment transition. I have also worked effectively with clients who have medical issues, have lost loved ones, or are experiencing a crisis and/or trauma.
My communication style
I believe in being positive and joining with clients and families to help them find solutions. Using a direct approach, I work with clients to incorporate different strategies that will help them see positive changes through acquiring skills that will facilitate change and growth using different psychological approaches.
My journey to therapy
I initially worked in a free clinic in Los Angeles helping individuals and families cope with anxiety, depression, crisis, and adjustment issues. At the same time, I worked in an outpatient treatment facility for substance abuse. I have a wide range of experience because I worked with the Department of Mental Health and DCFS in Los Angeles and helped individuals and families who were being reunited and in most cases and had experienced trauma and crisis. I have also worked with children who have ADHD and other learning disorders as well as Autism. Fortunately, I have seen individuals and families who I have treated garner skills that have helped them make great progress - most to the point where they no longer need therapy!
My goals for you
I believe goal setting is a collaborative process; believing it's important to come up with specific and achievable goals clients can obtain, I ensure clients are involved in the process every step of the way. Giving clients continued support, I work with them to learn new techniques regarding how to deal with issues that materialize along the way.
My first session with you
During the first session, I will ask quite a few questions to get an idea regarding the challenges clients face and find out what they would specifically like and change. Collaboratively, we come up with goals that will best help the client achieve their ideal goals.
