My name is Jiovanna Hernandez and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for working with people of all ages struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and trauma to help them find ways to create new paths and walk successfully through them. My approach is unique to each person I work with, as everyone has different needs. Whether our sessions are activity-based, learning-based, processing day-to-day struggles, or past issues, I will meet you where you are and we can begin your healing journey, together.
My approach
In my treatment, I utilize tools such as explanatory pictures, videos, and worksheets. I also incorporate monitoring tools to track progress, while introducing evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychoeducation. I believe that the person involved in therapy should take part in deciding what tools are utilized in treatment to better empower themselves.
My focus
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, teens, young adults, and families. I have worked with all ages and most diagnoses, and feel especially comfortable working with diagnoses such as Adjustment Disorder, Depression, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Trauma/Stressor-Related Disorders, ADD/ADHD, and Disruptive Dysregulation Mood Disorder.
My communication style
In my sessions, I like to use compassionate communication to help my clients feel safe, affirmed, and understood. I also tend to keep things light-hearted and even humorous when appropriate to ease the heaviness that can come with certain issues.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have always had a passion for empowering underrepresented, oppressed, or marginalized populations and assisting the people I work with in gaining access to health care and treatment. Helping others help themselves, giving back to my community in hopes for a brighter and more sustainable future, and using my career to reduce stereotypes surrounding mental health and help others gain access to mental health care are what has motivated me and driven me to this rewarding and fulfilling career path.
My goals for you
Goals should always be based on what problems my clients are ready, able, and willing to address. Goals are usually based on problems or symptoms that my clients are currently facing and turned into realistic, achievable goals that represent what they want to achieve, or what they want their life to look like at the end of the therapeutic process.
My first session with you
In our sessions, you will explore and learn about yourself, while building valuable tools to help yourself succeed in life and manage daily stressors. You will learn how to identify and express your emotions, needs, and wants by learning to successfully communicate with others and find solutions to daily problems without ruminating on negative thoughts.
