I am a Therapist and have been providing mental health services for 4 years in outpatient and in home settings. I address Anger management, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Depression, Panic Attacks, Social Anxiety Disorder, OCD, PTSD, Past Trauma, Sleep disturbances and more. I am interested in helping people to understand their patterns, build self-value and regulate their emotions.
My approach
I have extensive training in CBT, DBT, Family systems and Gottman. My therapeutic style incorporates elements of all these, using a mindfulness approach to helping people better their lives. I teach people how to partner with their emotions, work through their trauma, and cope more successfully. I help people build tools to lead successful independent lives. I specialize in emotional regulation and increased communication skills with emphasis on pattern identification and change. My approach is straight forward and employs problem solving and tool building to help people navigate their lives and equip them to deal with problems. I see the therapeutic relation as one of support and restoration for the building of healthy lives.
My focus
I work with individuals, couples, families and groups from all walks of life at many different levels in their desire for change.
My communication style
My communication style uses open discussion and helps people open up to themselves. It allows people to know themselves without judgement, while identifying the difference between who they actually are and what their trauma has made them think they are.
My journey to mental healthcare
When I was 24 my husband had a horrible work injury that changed our lives completely and we began therapy as a couple to cope with what happened. We worked together for almost a year then I went into individual counseling. I accomplished a lot in both settings but it took me getting into individual counseling to develop the courage and strength to go deep and address my past trauma. This changed my understanding of who I was and why I did what I did and I began to have more self control and confidence as I slowly learned who I was and what I was capable of. This inspired me and I wanted the same freedom for others. I was a stay at home mom then but when my children went to college I knew that is when I would be going as well. 4 degrees in psychology later and currently working on my PhD, here I am as a licensed marriage and family therapist.
My goals for you
Goal setting is based on each individual patient's needs. The patient identifies what they want for themselves, identifies the obstacles keeping them from getting to those goals, where they are currently in the process and then is assisted in creating a plan to overcome the obstacles and reach the goal.
My first session with you
The first session will be our time to get to know one another and the beginning of our working relationship. I will introduce myself, tell you what you can expect from therapy and then we will explore what brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve.
