Hello! My name is Amera Thomas, and I am a licensed mental health counselor. I am an advocate for mindfulness, self-sufficiency, autonomy, and pleasure activism. I am a certified yoga instructor and a doctoral candidate. I will meet you with a nonjudgmental and compassionate ear as well as a goal of collaborating with you to help you become the most confident version of yourself. I look forward to supporting and encouraging your growth!
My approach
I employ various modalities and feel it is appropriate to meet clients where they are, assess the most appropriate methodology for optimizing progress and explore evidence-based therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, Narrative, Reality, Motivational Interviewing & Life Coaching.
My focus
I encourage young adults, women, and people of color, especially in the LGBTQI+ community, to connect with me for a culturally informed and sensitive therapeutic experience.
My communication style
I create a warm, supportive, nonjudgmental, and compassionate environment for clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have experienced a lack of compassion and cultural sensitivity in my 20+ years of interacting with clinicians. I was driven to provide a safe, effective space for women with traumas, people who have experienced grief and loss, and people who struggle with their sexuality/gender identity. It was imperative that I could provide a gentle landing space for those who found a lack of support or discomfort in these areas.
