I believe it's important to have healthy self-talk and CBT will teach you how to identify and reconstruct the way you think. This will approach will help with any presenting issue because we cannot control others only ourselves and the way we respond to things.
My approach
I know that not everyone wants to be in therapy for a long time so I feel that teaching a person (solution focus) how to identify presenting issues and using problem-solving skills, can help increase your tools to help maintain emotional stability. I also guide clients how to learn how to self-regulate so they can manage their emotions better, using CBT.
My focus
I find that people who struggle with addiction, anger issues, anxious behaviors, depression, family/couples, and teens, work best with my modalities. I'm willing to see anyone who will put in the work outside of our sessions. Unfortunately, I do not find my approaches to be best suited for clients who struggle with a form of a personality disorder or severe trauma and usually will help the client find a more suitable therapist for them.
My communication style
I'm from the north, originally so I speak lovingly from the hip and direct with feedback. Most of my clients tell me that they love that I'm kind and honest and that I'm easy to talk to. I'm very down to Earth, because as I tell my clients you learn just as much about me as I do them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was a teacher, prior and worked with many teens and families that struggled with many issues. I love helping others and I feel so rewarded that I can help a person and see the light bulb go off when something clicks.
My goals for you
Since I'm solution focus, I find that it's important to set goals ONCE they can regulate their emotions properly.
My first session with you
In our first session, you should expect that we will go over some housekeeping things and complete the intake. In addition, I go over our skill sets in the first 4 weeks to help you gain emotional regulation on your own. So during the 1st session, will go over a skill set along with your presenting issues that brought you to therapy.
