Hi there, I'm Sharon!

I am Sharon Gooden-Williams, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1998 and a Master of Arts in Social Work in 2002, both from Valdosta State University.

My approach

My approach intertwines humanistic and psychodynamic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Grief Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I am passionate about treating psychological, emotional, and relationship challenges through the development of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and recognition of the healing power we each inherently hold inside of us.

My focus

I work with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, families, and geriatric populations. My specialties include depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, ADHD/ADD, ODD, Conduct Disorder, grief counseling, adjustment disorder, anger management, self-esteem, relationship issues, school issues, abuse, and substance abuse issues.

My communication style

I communicate with empathy, clarity, and a genuine desire to understand your unique perspective. My style balances active listening with thoughtful questions that encourage self-reflection and insight. I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to explore your thoughts and feelings openly.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have 23 years of experience in the mental healthcare field. My journey includes roles as a Clinical Therapist at Behavioral Health Clinic, Bereavement Coordinator for Hospice, Crisis Clinician for the Georgia Crisis and Access Line, Clinical Supervisor for graduate students, and Lead Social Worker for the School System. From 2011-2014, I completed my clinical hours for licensure under the supervision of Michael Meacham and Nancy Weingartner in Valdosta, GA.

My goals for you

My goal is to work in collaboration with clients to resolve their issues. I aim to empower you with self-awareness, emotional intelligence and help you recognize the inherent healing power within yourself.

My first session with you

In our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and begin to build a therapeutic relationship based on trust and understanding. I will take time to learn about your unique situation, challenges, and goals. Together, we will start to develop a personalized treatment plan to help you move forward and thrive. I typically work evenings and weekends to accommodate clients with a tedious weekday schedule.
