I'm glad you stopped by! I'm an Arkansas native (most people never met anyone from there) while going to college and living in Louisiana for a number of years before moving to Georgia over 10 years ago. I have been a therapist for over 15 years and I've worked in almost every setting of mental health except with inpatient hospitalization treatment. I have also worked with varying ages and backgrounds. I'm licensed in several states and have specializations in Anger Management, Supervision, and EMDR. My approach is very person-centered with a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, and Emotionally Focused. I believe in working with clients where they are and helping them along their own therapeutic journey. So you're the driver of your own car!
My approach
I believe the approach depends on whomever I am working with and their need at the present moment. Though eclectic in nature the modalities I most often utilize are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Client Centered.
My focus
I have only one request for clients: Be open to the process! Other than that, I have and will work with pretty much anyone who meets that requirement.
My communication style
I have a very fun-loving tone and demeanor but I can also be very assertive in order to help you along the therapeutic process when necessary. I listen actively and with great intent so I'm able to help piece information together in an organized fashion even when thought processes may be disorganized or scattered.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always had a natural affinity for helping people as long as I can remember! It didn't take me long to figure out after writing my senior paper in high school about Sigmund Freud what I needed to do! Once I was clear, I made a plan and completed my BA in Psychology and got an MA in Counseling from the same institution. I tell people therapy chose me! I know that working in this field is definitely a calling and not just a career choice (at least for me anyway).
My goals for you
Successful care is when a client is more self-aware about who they are as an authentic person and not afraid to walk in their truth. By being able to express that to others and not be limited by both internal/external factors, one can live an overall healthy life.
My first session with you
The first session with me isn't a typical, formal experience. I like to think of two people just having a "conversation ". Although I do like to get a sense of your background, who you are, and what you may have challenges with, I believe developing a good rapport and healthy therapeutic connection is vital from the beginning.
