I am Mary Elizabeth Alvior. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and hold a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. I am passionate about optimizing my client's quality of life. I have over 30 years of experience working with adults and couples.
My approach
I believe in providing each client with evidence-based care, matched to their specific goals. I use several forms of Cognitive Behavioral therapy as well as Solution Focused treatment and we will adjust our approach as needed to get the best outcomes.
My focus
I typically work with adults and have expertise in ADHD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma.
My communication style
I focus on building a relationship of trust from a non-judgmental perspective. I seek feedback from my clients to make sure I am meeting their needs. Everyone is doing the best they can in any given situation, but we often have unreasonable and cruel expectations of perfection for ourselves. I hope to help my clients adjust their expectations and treat themselves with kindness.
My journey to therapy
As a teen, I frequently was told that I was a great listener and that my calming presence was healing. At Vanderbilt University I majored in Psychology because the material seemed so intuitive to me. I attended the University of Hawaii for a Master's in Social Work because I believe we need to understand each person in the context of both their emotional life and their environment. I am passionate about helping my clients achieve their dreams.
My goals for you
I want to know what my client wants to accomplish long-range. Then we work together to set goals designed to reach those long-range goals. Each step to the ultimate needs to be specific, measurable, achievable, and realistic with a commitment to a timeframe. Along the way, we evaluate progress and adjust the goals as needed.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will get to know each other and your hopes and dreams for the life you want to be living. We will map out an initial plan to accomplish your goals for a better quality of life.
