I am a registered nurse and licensed therapist with 35+ years of experience. I have worked in in-patient, out-patient, and private practice with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, medical illnesses, relationship issues, and change of life issues.
My approach
I listen to you describing the issue and offer different ways of viewing the situation or new ways of problem-solving. I believe counseling should be problem-focused and work towards solving the situation.
My focus
I work with adult clients of all ages, beginning with college-aged. I am comfortable with people who have gone to therapy before as well as newcomers! I may give homework for clients to work on throughout the week to help us progress.
My communication style
I am very relaxed and laid back! I use humor and sarcasm at times and am very direct! I point out contradictions as I see them and help you to look at situations in a new way.
My journey to therapy
While working as an RN in ICU and ER, I saw the incidence of mental health and addiction issues. I started working in a mental health unit working with clients with these issues and then progressed to counseling at an addictions treatment center. Now I am working only in private practice.
My goals for you
Goals are always set with clients identifying areas they want to change. I will suggest things if I believe this is an area we should focus on.
My first session with you
I work to help you feel more comfortable both with therapy itself and in working with me. I ask questions to help me understand your situation and let you lead the conversation about why you are seeking therapy now.
