Hi there, I'm Kawana!

Hello! My name is Kawana Burnett, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I have worked in my field for 7 years and specialize in working alongside adults dealing with various life stressors and a variety of mental health disorders. I hope to provide you with some information about me to help you decide if my experience and style are a good match for you.

My approach

My treatment approaches include Humanistic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I may use aspects of many treatment approaches tailored to meet your individual needs.

My focus

I specialize in working with adults dealing with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, acute stress, PTSD, adjustment disorders, and suicidality. I have extensive experience in crisis intervention.

My communication style

I aim to communicate in a warm, empathetic and non-judgmental manner. My style is collaborative and focuses on helping you build on your strengths and work towards your goals.

My journey to mental healthcare

I entered the mental health field after completing my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. From 09/2016 to 02/2018, I completed my clinical hours for licensure at Rosecrance in Champaign-Urbana. I was motivated to enter this field to help others navigate life's challenges and improve their well-being.

My goals for you

My goal is to create a safe, supportive space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I hope to empower you with coping skills, insights and strategies to manage your mental health, enhance your relationships and live a more fulfilling life.

My first session with you

In our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and begin to develop a plan to address your unique needs and goals. I will ask questions to understand your background, current challenges and hopes for the future. We will also discuss my approach and how we can best work together. Remember, finding the right therapist is important, so please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
