I am Michelle Barraco Hatchett, a master's level psychotherapist, licensed clinical professional counselor(LCPC), and certified drug and alcohol counselor (CADC). In my 15 years of clinical experience, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults challenged with a variety of mental health and life concerns including but not limited to depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and substance use. I strive to create an emotionally supportive, non-judgmental, and safe environment while providing clinical insight to guide my clients through treatment.
My approach
Utilizing mostly a cognitive behavioral therapy approach, I assist my clients in becoming more aware of how their thoughts affect their moods. I provide useful techniques to challenge negative thoughts, identify cognitive distortions and utilize exercises that can be practiced to promote mindful and positive thinking. Other approaches often used include DBT and REBT.
My focus
I typically work with adults and adolescents (12-17). Conditions I have treated most frequently include depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, substance abuse as well as general life stressors and relationship conflict.
My communication style
I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for my clients, meeting my clients' needs and what they are looking to gain from therapy. Sessions include talk therapy as well as assistance in developing insight, coping skills, and effective strategies to manage current mental health concerns, distressing issues, and stressors.
