Hi, I am Rakhi, a therapist at Rula Mental Health. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Therapist (LCPC) and Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist (BC-DMT). I have more than 10 years of experience helping individuals harness their potential to move towards their desired goals, facilitating change and healing.
My approach
I use a client-centered approach, focusing on empathy, open-mindedness, and unconditional positive regard. I also incorporate Dialectic Behaviors Therapy (DBT), to improve insight, resilience, mindfulness, and emotional regulation. I do psychosomatic work to strengthen mind-body connections.
My focus
My experience includes working with clients of all ages who have anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I have worked with individuals to improve motivation, and attention, and identify coping mechanisms to manage daily stressors.
My communication style
I encourage open communication and self-expression. By active listening and unconditional positive regard, I provide open space for clients to build trust, increase insight, and explore strengths and challenges.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a child, I experienced trauma and anxiety. Growing up mental health was never discussed and thus I never had any support. As an adult, I decided to pursue an education in psychology and become a mental health professional. I liked learning and understanding human behavior and was passionate to help others who are dealing with mental health issues. I pursued a graduate degree at Columbia College Chicago to further my skills and knowledge and grow as a mental health professional.
My goals for you
I collaborate with clients to identify treatment goals. I encourage open discussion to create attainable goals. Goals are developed considering triggers, symptoms, unhealthy behavior patterns as well as thought processes.
My first session with you
Our first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and build rapport. I encouraged the client to ask questions about the therapy process and approach. The first session is an opportunity to learn about clients' immediate concerns and discuss expectations, rights, responsibilities, and also future scheduling. Toward the end of the first session, we can discuss treatment goals.
