Hi there, I'm Kathy!

Hello, I am Kathy ! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Through my education and life experiences I have discovered a jewel I would like to share with you. I use the acronym "HOW" as my foundation for therapy and to live by. HOW stands for 'Honor Other's Worth' through their journey to healing and often to relearning how to 'Honor Ones Worth'. I value the worth and dignity of each client I work with. I believe that each individual has the potential for growth and positive changes, and work collaboratively with client to achieve their goals.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is grounded in person-centered philosophy that enhances the value of each individual's worth and unique journey in life. I believe every person has inherent strengths and resilience that can be harnessed to overcome anxiety, depression, and other life situations. I tailor my approach to meet the specific needs and preferences of every client, by integrating evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness practices. I also incorporate elements of psychodynamic therapy, which explores how past experiences may be impacting present thoughts and behaviors.

My focus

I have been honored to work with clients in various settings, including private practice, community mental health clinics and inpatient. I have worked with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and couples. My passion to provide treatment for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, codependency, trauma, relationship issues, lack of self-confidence, and life adjustments.

My communication style

I believe in fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, understood, and validated. I recognizes that anxiety, depression, and other life situations can be deeply personal and affect varous aspects of person's life. I focus on creating a non-judgement environment that promotes self-discovery, self-compassion, and personal growth. I work with clients to identify and challenge negative thought patterns, develop healthy coping skills, and cultivate resilience to manage anxiety, depression, and day to life effectively.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been passionate about helping others. Through life experiences; lack of education, single parent, lack of self worth, and determination I continued my education. I was blessed with friends and therapist that believed in me and was by 'HOW' until I could be my own 'HOW' and empower others as a therapist.

My goals for you

My approach for goal setting with clients is person center. I believe the client knows themselves and story better than I could ever. I strive to empower client to believe in who they are and decide what they need to focus and work toward through treatment.

My first session with you

I strive to provide a positive experience for every client during their first session regardless if this is their first time or twentieth time to participate in therapy. I will discuss confidentiality, limits of, emergency procedures, and time for any questions to better understanding the process of therapy. I will discuss a part of therapy is finding a therapist that feels like a good fit to client. Also explain sometimes finding a good therapist is like finding a good pair of shoes and may require trying several pair of shoes and in therapy maybe several therapists to find the best fit. I encourage client that at any time during therapy and working together the client is not recieving what they need not to stop therapy but to let me know and I will help client find another therapist that is a better fit for client.
