Hi, I'm Heather Cheshire, LCSW-C. I have been a clinical social worker for 13 years. I aim to utilize talk therapy to help support the emotional growth desired by my clients. I believe in building strong relationships to help clients meet their goals.
My approach
The basis of my approach is a blend of strategies from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. I believe in utilizing a strengths based approached to help clients build new skills and strategies on their pre-existing strengths.
My focus
Most of my experience providing therapy has been with middle school, high school, and college aged youth and young adults. I have experience working with multiple mental health diagnoses, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, as well as situational challenges like major life changes and family and relationship issues.
My communication style
A warm, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation to successful therapy. I aim to make my clients feel welcome, valued, and the expert regarding their life. I hope my clients feelings always feel validated, especially when we are doing the challenging work of growing our skills.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a social worker because I have a passion for helping people and making a difference in their lives. I am driven by the belief that everyone has the potential for growth and change, and that therapy can be a powerful tool for helping people achieve their goals and live their best lives.
My goals for you
Our work together should be driven by what the client hopes to get out of therapy. We work together to determine the specific, relevant, attainable goals that will help them achieve those desires. We can also develop smaller objectives as part of the action plan to meet those larger goals.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will discuss the importance of confidentiality to the therapeutic relationship. I also will hope to learn more about my client's strengths, interests, goals, and concerns for therapy.
