My name is Angela Hastings, and I am a social worker licensed in Michigan with 10 years of experience in the clinical field. I have worked with clients on an individual basis to address crisis intervention, life transitions, and chronic anxiety and depression. My areas of passion also include crisis of faith, body image, self-harm, and eating disorders.
My approach
My counseling style is warm, interactive, and dynamic. I see my role as that of a mentor and coach. I believe counseling is best done with a positive relationship and unconditional compassion. I focus on client centered therapy with clients setting the goals and pace of our sessions. I believe clients know themselves best, and I am coming alongside to support the journey! My counseling style tends to be eclectic, and I take from solution focused, CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing models.
My focus
I studied at Grand Valley State University for both my undergraduate and masters degrees, and have been a practicing therapist since 2013. I am open to working with clients who are curious to learn more about themselves in order to take steps forward in better appreciating and enjoying life. My experience has been primarily with adult clients with varying backgrounds and from all walks of life.
My communication style
My goal in meeting with my clients is to create a safe space to learn and grow. I want my clients to leave each session feeling heard, supported, and challenged to utilize some tools going forward. If clients are open, I do assign homework between sessions to help facilitate growth.
