Hi there, I'm Rachel!

Hello! I’m Rachel Harmon and I look forward to meeting you. I’m a master’s level licensed clinical social worker (LMSW), licensed for both clinical and macro-level practice in Michigan. I invite you to embark on a wellness journey together that identifies strengths, enhances skills, and alleviates symptoms as we foster meaningful changes you’d like to accomplish in the therapeutic process.

My approach

Theoretically, I embody Cognitive, Behavioral, and Psychoanalytic approaches. I also draw upon a rich background of professional experiences having worked with children, adults, and families over the last (nearly) twenty-five years. I hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work and I have a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Ministry. Having completed Seminary, a specialty I offer is Christian Counseling as a non-denominational Christian Minister for clients who would like this.

My focus

Whether navigating aspects of stress, depressed mood, anxiety, trauma, relational impacts, life transitions, chronic illness, parenting, spirituality, etc., I am passionate about individualizing the work I do with clients. I utilize such therapies as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Talk Therapy, Trauma-Focused, Compassion-Focused, Strength-Based, Mindfulness-Based, and Person-Centered Therapy.

My communication style

People generally describe me as genuine and authentic. Clients typically feel calm, centered, energy as we get to know one another and work toward developing a trusting relationship in the therapeutic process. I provide a confidential, non-judgmental, emotionally safe environment of engagement.

My journey to mental healthcare

I’ve known since high school I would serve in a helping profession. I’ve held a long-time passion for doing therapy/counseling. My choices in my professional career have included therapy/counseling, but also other social work experiences throughout its duration. Social work is diverse, so it provides a multitude of potential professional engagements and I’ve been blessed to have experienced so much! (But) I note that I tend to find myself circling back to doing therapy and/or counseling work—it’s a passion and also a call for me.

My goals for you

I engage collaboratively with clients during their wellness journey to assist and support person-centered therapy goals. I honor the aspirations a client identifies in the therapeutic process and draw upon a vast skill set to try to assist them in reaching them. I meet clients where they are and we develop goals together from there.

My first session with you

During the first session, we will get to know each other through brief introductions and general aspects related to service provision. I will invite the client to share their story—the “why” that brought them into therapy. I will conclude our time by discussing logistics of of the service and our next steps. This would include my encouragement to start thinking about strengths and goals, to prepare for our developing a treatment plan in the following session.
