Hi there, I'm Margaret!

Hi! I am Maggie Evers, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) serving both Minnesota and Wisconsin residents, here to help navigate life's twists and turns. Think of me as your co-pilot on this journey offering a safe and judgment-free space where you can unpack your thoughts and feelings. I specialize in cutting through the jargon and getting to the heart of what's on your mind. Life can be messy, and I'm here to help you sort through it. My approach is real, grounded, and collaborative—we're in this together. Whether you're dealing with recovering from trauma, grief of a loved one (this includes your beloved fur-babies), everyday stress, relationship challenges, or just trying to figure yourself out, we'll work together to find practical solutions and coping techniques. No judgment, just support, and the expectation that we create strategies that support your recovery.

My approach

My approach to therapy is to ensure that the client's needs are being met in an ethical and evidenced-based manner. I use a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Polyvagal Theory of teaching self-regulation strategies.

My focus

I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds from teenagers to any age adult. The issues that I see most often, and very comfortable treating include trauma, a variety of phobias, social anxiety, anxiety disorders and worry, perfectionism, avoidance, indecision, depression, job burnout, and low motivation. I especially enjoy working with medical and other professionals (physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, psychotherapists, executives, attorneys, etc...) that need support, but the stigma of "talking to someone" has prevented them from doing so.

My communication style

Most of my clients have remarked that I am "real" and "make me feel like I can be myself". I am a quirky, very down to earth person with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. My communication style is non-judgmental, direct, and honest. I firmly believe that establishing a healthy relationship of trust and open communication is central to healing. I focus on maintaining a therapeutic environment of safety for others to be direct and honest in return.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to becoming a therapist started with intending to be a researcher. After having experienced a traumatic event during my first internship that involved suicide of a person, I could not find the kind of help I needed and decided to change my life focus. I was desperate to learn how to recover from what had become posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), because I was paralyzed in feelings of detachment from myself and others, depression, anger, fear and anxiety. I have since recovered using the tools that work and have become an ambassador for teaching others the same tools. My expectation for others that have experienced trauma or have other mental health problems is that they will learn to recover with treatment.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting varies depending on the client's style of learning and processing information. Goal setting begins at the first session in order to provide structure. Progress on identified goals are reviewed at each session to know if the strategies are effectively meeting the client's needs.

My first session with you

Clients should expect that our first session will be spent gathering information about background and reason for seeking therapy. From the information gathered, I will offer a general outline/plan to achieve desired goals from therapy.
