I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and have been providing counseling services for 20 years in a variety of social service settings. My experience includes providing services in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a community mental health center, a group home for at-risk youth as well as a retirement community and nursing home. I've been told that I am easy to talk to, and down to earth and people feel comfortable opening up to me. Don't take their word for it. Give me a call.
My approach
I believe that counseling is a collaborative endeavor that takes place within an encouraging, empathic, and non-judgmental environment. My process is eclectic, which means that I incorporate various treatment modalities and approaches tailored to fit your needs. I integrate wellness, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Structured Life Review, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered and Strength-Based approaches into my therapy sessions. I utilize evidence-based interventions and am continually increasing my own knowledge via training in the latest theories and techniques.
My focus
I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families and meet with clients ranging in age from 18-99 years old. I specialize in issues including Anxiety, Depression, Grief/Loss, Work-Life Balance, Stress, Relationship Struggles, Trauma, Low Self-Esteem, Life Transitions, and Personal Growth.
My communication style
With my clients, I am compassionate and offer straightforward feedback and guidance incorporating humor into my work where appropriate. I will challenge you in a caring and empathetic manner to look at yourself and seek alternative options and strategies for handling life’s challenges.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've seen people struggle to make it through one more day. And I've seen people faced with life challenges overcome them to reach an even greater potential. I became a counselor to help people through those difficult times. We all have them and we can all benefit from having someone to talk to and work through challenges with us. You are not alone on this journey!
My goals for you
My goal as a therapist is to help you gain understanding, find meaning and make changes to obtain the better quality of life that you envision for yourself. This can be accomplished through processing your thoughts and feelings around problematic areas, identifying your goals, building on your strengths, and learning strategies and coping skills to reach your goals.
My first session with you
In our first session, you have the opportunity to tell your story. I want you to feel heard, understood, supported, and validated. We will talk about goals and what you hope to get out of counseling. We will work at your pace to address your concerns. I want you to leave our sessions feeling hopeful and cared for. I often assign homework between sessions, such as writing in a journal and other methods of self-reflection.
