Hi there, I am Naami Shiff, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I specialize in treating childhood trauma, family-related issues, loss and grief, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I am Trauma Informed and trained in the use of Family Systems, Attachment Theory, and Child-Parent Psychology to provide clients with relief from depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms, and challenging family dynamics. I use my ability to connect well with others and evidence-based techniques to empower my clients to gain confidence, develop new coping skills, manage emotions, and embrace themselves.
My approach
Many of my clients suffer from triggers and deep-rooted beliefs informed by trauma. I help my clients recognize that due to previous experiences, they may have learned defense mechanisms to keep themselves safe. Once they understand that they are reacting this way because their bodies adapted to their specific life circumstances, they are free to choose how they want to respond when triggered again. Clients are then empowered to create new coping mechanisms that enable them to lead positive and productive lives.
My focus
I enjoy working with children, teens, young adults, adults, and families. I have been trained in a family systems model, trauma-informed care, attachment-based therapy, and Child-Parent Psychology. I specialize in working with parents regarding their relationship with their children. I am passionate about getting to the root of the problem and providing clients with the ability to have strong relationships.
My communication style
I approach my work with clients through a lens of understanding and compassion. There is no judgment or shame in our shared space. My clients feel heard, seen, and valued. I am here to act as a trusting guide to help you navigate whatever murky waters you are experiencing. In our work together, I will hold space for you and challenge you. I aim to find the balance between cheering you on from the sidelines and coaching you. I will validate your experience and, at the same time, remind you how powerful you are—propelling you forward and encouraging you to take risks and grow. I will hold you accountable with grace and utilize creative modalities to help guide you back to believing in yourself.
My journey to mental healthcare
In my own life, I have experienced feeling stuck and unable to access my full self. I went on a journey of self-discovery and was able to recognize what needed to shift in order for me to fully embrace the challenges I was dealt and lead a productive, joyful live. I am passionate about helping others heal and find themselves again. My hope for my clients is after doing deep work; they walk away with a new sense of freedom and empowerment to live their best life.
My goals for you
I encourage clients to prioritize what they would like to work on first. We establish therapeutic goals together early on in the treatment process. As we continue to work together, we reflect back on those goals to maximize the client's experience, track progress and growth, and adjust goals as needed.
My first session with you
An initial session will focus on establishing a strong therapeutic relationship; I want you to feel comfortable, seen, and valued. I also want to get to know your story and hear what brought you to therapy. Together we will decide if it's a good fit for continuing with the treatment process.
