My name is Whitney Delphos, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in New York with a PhD in mental health counseling. My approach to counseling is based on the idea that people need to be intrinsically motivated in order to achieve positive changes in their lives. Therefore, I offer a directive, client-centered approach to support a secure setting where clients can start to examine and resolve their ambivalence surrounding their concerns. With my counseling philosophy, I have found that it helps clients to find fulfilling reasons to make productive changes.
My approach
As a recovery enthusiast, my genuine passion for recovery is my greatest strength as a counselor. While recovery can seem daunting, I provide empathic understanding coupled with sincerity that recovery is a positive solution. While understanding that clients may have barriers and fears, I utilize strength-based approaches to guide them to see that overcoming their obstacles is achievable and rewarding. Once clients voice to me that they are ready to alter their behaviors, I collaborate with them and provide Cognitive Behavioral methods to help solidify their desired changes.
My focus
Most of my counseling experience consists of working with clients who have substance use issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment challenges. The most common theoretical approaches I utilize in my counseling work are person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
My communication style
I provide a warm, genuine, and non-judgmental climate where clients feel safe to explore their issues.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have a strong interest in developing good mental health. I became a counselor because I wanted to assist people in finding solutions for change.
My goals for you
As a person-centered therapist, I strongly believe that a client should find their answers for change from within. Therefore, as we collaborate, I will utilize various approaches to help guide you to set goals that you are motivated to pursue.
My first session with you
As a person-centered therapist, I am certain that a client should look within for the solutions to change. In order to help you develop goals that you are driven to pursue, I will use a variety of strategies as we work together.
